IMA's Karnataka Social Security Scheme


IMAs Karnataka State Health Scheme is a form of mutual health benefit scheme initiated by the IMA Karnataka chapter in 2016 after studying the similar successful programme by Kerala IMA. The scheme provides financial assistance for basic health care services to the IMA life members of Karnataka and to their Family.

It shall function as an activity of IMA Karnataka State Branch and shall be managed by IMA’s Karnataka State Health Scheme (IMA-KSHS) as per rules & Byelaws of the IMA-KSHS as approved by the IMA Karnataka State Council Meeting held on 15th August 2016 at Bengaluru



Beneficiaries :

  • Benefits of the scheme shall be available only to the member of IMA-KSHS and his / her spouse, children and parents, if the member has paid the membership, subscription, annual advance premium contribution of his and his/ her spouse, children and Parents individually.
  • In the event of death of a member, the spouse, children and parents can opt as a beneficiary member of the scheme.
  • Such a beneficiary member shall not have any right to contest and vote in elections of IMA-KSHS and participate in any meetings.

Eligibility for Membership :

  • Life member of IMA-KSB along with spouse, children and parents.
  • Member should be below the age of 85 years at the time of joining. (Every member has to produce a certificate of age proof- School certificate-TC or SSLC/PUC marks card /Passport /Pan card / Adhar card / LIC Bond etc for verification)
  • IMA KSB members have to produce IMA Life member certificate.

How did this idea of Health Scheme took shape?

  • In IMA Gangavathi , once Dr.Chiniwalar V V, Vice-President IMA KSB (2014-15) was explaining regarding IMA’s Professional Protection Scheme(KPPS) and Social Security Scheme (KSSS) to its members. At that time one of the senior members Dr.M I Mudagal pointed that with KPPS IMA would help to resolve the issue of payment when a member faces any case of medical negligence and with KSSS, IMA would help the bereaved family when a member passes away, and questioned about availability of any scheme which helps the member during his LIFE TIME. There was no answer to this question at that time.
  • Dr.Chiniwalar discussed this matter with Dr.Madhusudhan Kariganur of Sirguppa. He suggested regarding HEALTH SCHEME of IMA-Kerala started 10 years back.

Who took initiation ?

  • Dr.Chiniwalar V.V. discussed the matter with the past President of IMA-KSB Dr.Yogananada Reddy, the then President of IMA-KSB Dr.Honnegouda and Dr.Madhusudhan K. Editor IMA-Focus. All of them supported and suggested to go ahead as it was a scheme and to study in detail with IMA-Kerala’s Health Scheme members.
  • Dr.Chiniwalar V V took initiation, searched in internet and contacted the concerned authorities of IMA Kerala Health Scheme. This was brought to the notice of the IMA KSB & presented at the SWC meeting at Biligiriranganabetta, Chamarajnagar under the presidentship of Dr.Honnegouda and distributed the printouts of IMA Kerala Health Scheme. Dr.Honnegouda and his team appreciated and authorized Dr.Chiniwalar to go ahead with a team to Kerala to get the detailed picture of the scheme.
  • Subsequently Dr.G N Prabhakar President IMA KSB(2015-16) asked Dr.Chiniwalar to go to Kerala & submit a report.
  • On 2nd July 2016, Dr.Chiniwalar along with Dr.Yogananda Reddy Y.C., Dr.Honnegouda and Dr.H K Nagesh went to Thiruvantapuram and discussed with Dr. Pradeep Kumar Secretary, Kerala Health scheme and his colleagues about the implementation, reimbursement, claims scrutiny and management.

Dr. S T Yavagal, became the 1st Founder Member of the scheme. During edicon, Tumukuru Dr. Yogananda Reddy resigned for the post of IMA KSHS. In his place Dr. Chiniwalar the then secretary was selected as the Chairman during the General Body meeting of IMA KSHS and Dr.Sharanabasava Sankanur as Secretary and Dr.Yogananda Reddy as Scrutinising committee member in place of Dr.Mithun Sellegi.

Dr. R S Bellary President IMA KSB 2016-17 during his tenure promoted and popularised IMA-KSHS in all his branch visits along with his team. On 1st July 2017-DOCTORS DAY –the scheme was launched by Dr.Alex Franklin, Secretary, National IMA Health Scheme under the presidentship of Dr. R S Bellary at Bengaluru. By this time 300 members were enrolled. It was appreciated by Dr. Alex Franklin as a good growth.

At present the strength is 1116 { 500 Founder Members + 420 Beneficiary members + 196 General (Ordinary) members }. The reimbursement has given for 471 claims have been reimbursed with Total Amount of Rs. 27681358-00
